The Voice of the Union Movement

Australia’s history cannot be written without reference to the Trade Union Movement.

The eight hour day, equal pay for women, annual leave, maternity leave, sick leave, penalty rates and superannuation all fought hard for and won by Trade Unions. They won these rights by joining their Union and working collectively to get a better deal.

The Eureka Flag is a historic Australian banner, a symbol of democracy, protest, and Australian identity, first flown during the 1854 Eureka Rebellion by gold miners in Ballarat against unjust mining licenses, featuring the Southern Cross on a dark blue field. Designed by Henry Ross and sewn by three women, it represents defiance against oppression, representing the fight for rights and liberties that led to democratic reforms like the right to vote.
